Leadership Strategy Roundtables
The Alliance Member Leadership Strategy Roundtables are open to leadership staff of Alliance member organizations. They are designed to help orphan-serving organizations address the most difficult challenges they face with God-honoring excellence.
These sessions provide leaders a private space to explore together both key challenges and effective solutions—enabling the cross-pollination of questions, ideas, and effective models. These sessions will also seek to identify and capture the promising practices and best-practice models of Alliance members for promotion among member organizations and beyond.
You must sign-up for the Roundtables, either by registering for the ones you wish to attend via your Summit registration OR by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Shifting Along the Continuum Toward Community- and Family-Based Orphan Care
Children most thrive when their care is rooted in caring homes and community. But tragic levels of need often push us toward large-scale residential care. How do we as leaders in Christian orphan care organizations grapple with this tension? Are their effective models for transitioning from institution to a more community- and family-based model? Most importantly, how do we move definitively toward providing care in a manner closest to the ideal for each unique situation?
11:00am – 12:00am Breakout Session I
Preparing and Supporting Families that Choose Challenging Adoptions
It’s exciting to see more Christian families choose older child, sibling group and special needs adoption. But are we as Christian agencies adequately preparing these families for the challenges they’ll face, or supporting them in difficulties they encounter along the way? Join leaders of Christian adoption agencies and related ministries to examine our responsibility to these families…and how we can better help them thrive amidst the joys and struggles they face.
2:00pm – 3:00pm Breakout Sessions II
Maintaining Positive Relations with Government Here and Abroad: Remaining Faithful As Public Policies Become Constrictive
Government policies in many jurisdictions increasingly constrict Christian non-profits, from new grant restrictions to limits on child-placement discretion. Join fellow leaders of Alliance member organizations for instruction and private discussion on the current challenges and pro-active steps that can be taken. (Moderator: Stanley Carlson-Theis, Institutional Religious Freedom Alliance)
4:00pm – 5:00pm Breakout Sessions III
Best Practices in Successful Life Transitions for Older Orphans
As older orphans age out from systems of care around the world, the outcomes are heartbreaking: homelessness, prostitution, substance abuse, crime and incarceration await many who lack adequate support networks. In this discussion forum for leaders and practitioners, we will share ideas and catalogue best practices in holistic life transition programs for older orphans including: Christ-centered spiritual care and mentoring, transitional housing, life skills preparation, vocational skills training and more. (Moderator: Scott Brown, Christian Leadership Alliance)
11:00am – 12:00pm Breakout Sessions IV
Microfinance and Orphan Care: A Vital Partnership in Facing the Global Orphan Crisis
Although different in approach, orphan-care and economic-development organizations have similar goals: to unleash human flourishing in the lives of children and families. This session—tailored to ministry leaders and practitioners—looks at how these organizations can forge an alliance to address the global orphan crisis together. Besides offering theory behind the approach, this session will also explore what collaboration can look like on the ground. (Moderator: Peter Greer, Hope International)
